Dallas Black Hawks Jerseys

The Dallas Black Hawks played in the old C.H.L. for 15 seasons. For 11 years, 1967-1978, they were the farm team for the Chicago Black Hawks. The Black Hawks were one of the best teams in the old C.H.L.. They only missed the playoffs twice in 15 years. They also made it to the finals 10 out of those 15 years. Of those 10 years, 6 were consecutive years. However, they could only win 4 Adams Cups during those 10 finals. The Black Hawks are tied with the Omaha Knights with 4 Adams Cups, a C.H.L. record.

Dallas Black Hawks jersey

This home Dallas Black Hawks jersey is from the late 1970's early 1980's (I think). The manufacturer of this knit jersey is Wilson. Below the Wilson tag is a Gunzo's tag. Gunzo was the supplier of jerseys to the Chicago Black Hawks. Chicago was the parent team of the Dallas franchise from 1967-1978. The team crest is fully embroidered, the numbers are red and black two color type. Notice the tomahawks on the shoulders. Dallas had a "D" type tomahawk. Chicago has the "C" type and St. Louis Braves had the "B" type tomahawks. This jersey is in great shape with some wear visable. I'm not sure what year this is from and who might have worn it. A few players who wore #5 were Ray McKay (67-70), Roger Wilson (68-75), Cal Sandbeck (79/80), Brian Young (80/81), and Joe MacDonnell (81/82). If you know of any others, please let me know. Former P.R. Director for the Dallas Blackhawks, Scott Noris, says that this jersey appears to be Larry Goodenough's from the 1978-79 season. (thanks to Steve E. for the photo)

Dallas Black Hawks jersey

Here's another example of a home Dallas Black Hawks jersey. It looks similar to the jersey above. However, the logo color is different. The tomahawks are a different shape and the numbers are a single color. I don't know the manufacturer due to the fact the tags are missing. My guess is that this jersey is older than the one above. The jersey shows some moderate wear, mostly aging. The number 2 on back is in bad shape and worn. A few of the other numbers seem to be in the same shape. The collar is slightly ripped. The color of the jersey has faded slightly. This one was purchased from Milton Byron of Byron's hockey supply. Milton is a well known dealer in game worn hockey jerseys. Scott Noris, former P.R. Director of the Dallas Blackhawks, says this #12 sweater is older, probably about 1974-75.  The person who wore that number during that season was Michel Archambault. Also, a former Blackhawk player has seen this jersey and said it is authentic and most likley from the late 60's. One other player that might have worn this jersey was Roger Bellerive during the 1967-69 seasons. (thanks to Denton V. for the photo)

Dallas Black Hawks 1975/76:

This is a great old C.H.L. Dallas Blackhawks jersey worn by Left Winger Joey Johnston during the 1975/76 season. Johnston played in 11 games scoring 4 goals 2 assists. Jersey features beautiful chain-stitched “D” shoulder patches and crest. This dureen jersey has a “Gunzo’s” tag in the collar and a “75” set tag in the hem. It shows lots of abuse with many stick marks and at least 5 team repairs. Jersey also has  the garter-style fight strap that has been cut out. Since Johnston only played 11 games for Dallas in 1975/76, this jersey was later reused with a name that has been removed. A nice, rare piece worn by an NHL All-Star. This jersey is currently on auction at FromTheGame.com Spring 2003 Auction (thanks to Jay at FromTheGame.com for the use of the photos).

Dallas Black Hawks 1977-78:

Here's a great looking road Dallas Black Hawks jersey. This jersey is from the 1977-78 season and was worn by rookie right-winger John Anderson. John played in 52 games scoring 22 goals 23 assists for 45 points. During the Adams Cup playoffs, John tallied 11 goals to set a new C.H.L. mark for most goals during the playoffs. Along with his 8 assists for a total of 19 points, Anderson was the league leading scorer during the playoffs. For his superb performance in the playoffs, Anderson was selected as the Most Valuable Player in the 1977-78 C.H.L. Playoffs. John was also named to the C.H.L. Second All-Star Team. The jersey is made by Wilson, size 46 and as well has a Gunzo's tag below the Wilson tag. In the inside hem, there is a sewn-in year tag. Notice the "D" tomahawks on the shoulders. Jersey is hammered. The right sleeve has had numerous repairs with small cloth patches. Garter belt fight strap sewn on. (thanks to Dan S. for supplying some great photos of a great jersey)

Another great looking home Dallas Hawks jersey. This jersey was last worn by defenseman Claire Alexander during the 1978/79 season. Claire joined the team late in the season and appeared in 7 games scoring 1 goal 2 assist. He also appeared in 6 playoff games that same season. The jersey is a size 46, Wilson Bros, Gunzo's of River Forest. A year tag is sewn on the hem and is marked 77. This jersey may have been worn by someone else in an earlier season. Has old style garter belt fight strap. (thanks to John S. for providing the above photos).

Another great home jersey from the 1977/78 season. This jersey was worn by Rob Tudor. Rob played with the Dallas Black Hawks for 4 seasons from 1978-1982. This jersey was recycled from the 1977 season. Not sure how many seasons Rob wore this jersey, but it's hammered. The jersey is a Wilson Knit, the tag is missing but you can see where it once was above the Gunzo's tag. Size tag is also missing. Jersey has old style garter belt fight strap. Jersey has many repairs, stick marks and board burns. (Thanks to Roger D. for supplying the photos)

Dallas Black Hawks 1978-79:

Here is an interesting jersey. This jersey comes from a Junior "A" team that was in the BCJHL.  This team had some sort of affiliation with the Portland Winter Hawks of the old WHL. Now, I've heard stories more than once that the Dallas Blackhawks passed their old game jerseys to the Portland Winter Hawks team. Portland would take the "D" tomahawks off the shoulders and replace them with "P" tomahawks. This is the first time that I've heard or seen that Portland passed their jerseys down to a Junior "A" team. This jersey comes from a former player on this Junior "A' team. The former player believes that the jersey was never used after Dallas due to the light wear. They were never worn by his Junior team because they did not receive a full set of jerseys. He thinks they were never used by Portland because they would have put a "P" on the shoulders. Due to the light wear, I believe that Larry Huras wore this jersey during the 1978/79 season. Larry played in 6 games tallying 1 assist and 21 penalty minutes. The jersey is a Gunzo's knit, size 46. and has the older style garter belt fight strap. (Thanks to Jim K. for supplying the great photos)

Dallas Black Hawks 2002:

Here's a game ready jersey that was prepared for former Dallas Black Hawk, Oscar Gaudet. Oscar played three seasons with the Dallas Black Hawks from 1967 to 1970. On February 9th and 10th, 2002, the Fort Worth Brahmas had an "Old Timers" weekend were the Fort Worth Brahmas wore Fort Worth Texans jerseys for the weekend series. On the 10th, former Dallas Black Hawks and Freeze players played a "Old Timers" game versus former Fort Worth Rangers, Wings, Texans, Fire and Brahmas players. Former Fort Worth players wore replica Texans jerseys and the Dallas players all wore Black Hawk replica jerseys. This jersey was to be wore by Oscar Gaudet, but he was snowed in and could not make the event. The jersey is OT knit, size XXL. The numbers are heat sealed on along with the name. The logo on front is made out of some shinny cloth and is also heat sealed on front. The OT logo on the right tail is heat sealed on the back. There is a fight strap on the jersey.
